Love Outshines Hate

Here are links to local media coverage of the Pro-Diversity / Anti-Hate demonstration that happened here in Carbondale last Wednesday:

It was almost certainly the biggest political event that I've seen in this town in years, with over 300 people standing on the corner in support of acceptance and tolerance of diversity. This impressive turnout was a very touching success, especially considering that the main event (the speech by Judy Shepherd) had been cancelled at the last minute due to illness. In contrast, Phelp's "church" only had about a dozen people spreading their message of hatred and violence. After an hour or two on that corner, surrounded by a largely loving and accepting presence, I felt very inspired and reassured that there is still hope for the people of this community and society.
