More Content Imported
When I installed [staticpage:geeklog]Geeklog[/staticpage], I didn't transfer most of my old content into the new format. I just left links to the old pages from the old site. Why? Because I was new to Geeklog and wasn't really sure about all of the details! Now that I've had a little time to play around with it, though, I've transferred some of the old information topics into the new system.
To you, our guest, the difference should seem minimal. The text style is a little different, and the text is surrounded by the new leftbar, rightbar, header, and footer.
But behind the scenes, a major change has taken place. Now, all of the pages that I've transferred can be edited using the web-based admin interface. This means that I can edit them from any internet-ready computer. It also means that any users of this site who I grant editing privileges to can edit it too! So, before long, we may actually have collaboratively edited documents here at treesong.org.
Other than that, the second biggest change in site format is the inclusion of newsfeeds on the General News page. If you go to the topic named General News, you should see a series of news feeds in the lower right hand corner of the page. These allow you to skim the headlines of other sites that are in some way related to this one. To view the full articles, click on the title, and you will be directed to the .
If I have time tonight, I will also start work on a User's Guide for the newly formatted treesong.org. You can find all of the content and features of this site just by browsing the links in the header and sidebars. But if it all seems to be too much information at once, or you're not sure where to start, the tutorial will explain what each component of the site is and how to use it.
There's a little bit of new content too, but I'll let that speak for itself. :) These Site Updates will mostly be a source of information about changes to the format of the site itself, especially since many of the components of the new design let you know what the latest changes are!
As always, if you have any questions, contact me for more information. And in case this new feature of the site hasn't fully dawned on you yet, I encourage you to submit your own content! This includes news, links, events, anything related to the general themes of treesong.org. I hope to hear from you soon...
