Ultima

Ultima is a computer role-playing game series whose original run spanned 20 years, nine (and a half) major episodes, and several spin-off games. It has earned a loyal fan base of millions, many of whom still maintain websites about the original series even though the last episode was released in 1999. The most famous and popular Ultima aficionados can be found in the Ultima Dragons, of which I am a member.

This site is my exploration of the significance that Ultima and its philosophies have had in my life and the lives of many. Sometimes, this experience with Ultima has been very simple and enjoyable fantasy role-playing fun. Other times, it has been an inspiration to a "real life" pursuit of ethical and spiritual living. Either way, it was always an incredible experience that is close to my heart even though I no longer play the games.

• Introduction = This is my personal introduction to what Ultima is and why I care enough to maintain a website on the topic.
• Way of the Avatar = This explains the Way of the Avatar, its Eight Virtues, and the Three Principles that are the foundation of the philosophy. It also includes an animation in which Richard Garriott explains the meaning of the Codex symbol and how the Principles of Truth, Love, and Courage combine to form the Virtues of Honesty, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Sacrifice, Honor, Spirituality, and Humility.
• Wayfarers = This is a movement of people who embrace the Way of the Avatar as a real-life philosophy.
• Britannia = This is a brief exploration of the early history of Britannia, the fantasy world that is at the heart of the Ultima series.
• Ultima Fiction = This is a collection of my Ultima fiction to date. My primary focus in my writing is my own original work, so it'll take time to build up this collection. But rest assured, more is on the way!
• Ultima University = This site is an effort to preserve, share, understand, and celebrate all aspects of Ultima. Some day, I would like to start a non-profit organization to carry on the work of the Ultima University. If you're interested in joining this effort, please contact me.
